Gabe’s family used to own a busy little Mexican restaurant and this is their tomato salsa recipe. We make this for almost every party or gathering we host and it is always a hit. Fun fact: this recipe is still used by a local Mexican restaurant.
The beauty about this recipe is that you can adjust the heat level. If you like it mild then put in less of the base. Or if spice is your jam, add all the base. Warning, it can get very hot and we are not liable for any burnt tongues.
Happy Cooking!

Ingredients
- 12-15 medium tomatoes
- 1 bunch cilantro
- 1 bunch green onions
- 2-3 wax or yellow peppers, depending on spice preference
- 2-3 serrano chilis, depending on spice preference
- 1 4oz can chopped green chilis
- 2 oz water
- 3 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 tsp granulated garlic
Instructions
- To make the salsa base: Combine wax peppers, serranos, green chilis, water, and 1 tomato into the blender and pulse until pureed. Pour half into a separate bowl
- Remove stems and quarter tomatoes and add to blender. Pulse until tomatoes are mostly liquid but small chunks remain. Empty into large mixing bowl
- Chop cilantro and green onion and mix into salsa along with salt and granulate garlic
- At this point, taste your salsa. If you want it spicier then stir in more of the base mixture. Note: the heat does cool overtime so adjust the base amount accordingly if you plan on serving at a later date. Salsa will keep in the fridge for 3 days.
- Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!
