These Beer Braised Sausages are great for an at-home Oktoberfest celebration or an afternoon of sports watching. We prefer to use polish sausages (our favorite brand is Teton Waters Ranch) but this recipe works well with bratwursts as well. We also like to use a German Hefeweizen but an ale will also work. We tried it with an IPA and the hops were a bit too over powering. Serve these with some saurkraut and potato salad and you’ve got yourself a tasty meal.

Beer Braised Sausage
Ingredients
- 6-8 large bratwursts or polish sausages you can use beef or pork
- 12 ounce bottle of beer we prefer a german hefeweizen
- 1/2 white onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Instructions
- Cut onion lengthwise into thin strips
- Preheat large skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 TBSP oil
- Add onion and cook 3-5 minutes until they are translucent and begin to soften
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant
- Nestle the brats or sausages into the pan and add the beer. Allow the sausage and onions to cook in the beer until the liquid is dissolved, about 15-20 minutes.
- When liquid is 3/4 dissolved preheat a grill or grill pan over high heat
- Once all liquid is gone, remove the brats or sausages and add to the grill or grill pan. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until they reach your desired doneness. We prefer ours to have dark grill marks and some char blisters. Turn half way through your grilling time.
- Serve with the sauteed onions and garlic. These are also great with sauerkraut and mustard
- Enjoy!
